Temptations of the West: How to Be Modern in India, Pakistan, Tibet, and Beyond

This was the third book from Pankaj M which I read. Was a bit disappointed.

The book provides a lot of facts and looks well researched. However what was disappointing was that his views seem to be from a westerner (I know he lives in London), but then I would expect this from a westerner and not an Indian. Got the sense that the book was written keeping a western audience in mind, hence found it below where I hoped it would be.

Lot of the stuff from the Romantics (his best) is recounted in the first part of the book. Wish the western bias was missing from the second part.

Games Indians Play

Interesting book which tries to explore the quirky behaviour of 'we are like this only Indians'.  The author is an ex IIM A prof and an expert in the Game Theory and Organizational behaviour.

The tone of the book suggested some contempt for Indians (behaviours). The author has confessed that he is not trying to figure out the 'why' behind the behaviour but, is just explaining the same using some Game Theory concepts.

However I think factors like serious mismatch between the Demand and Supply in India, the sheer magnitute of managing things in India, the frustrations and problems faced by Indians due to the immense population is not accounted for.

Would recommend the book, esp for people who want to figure out Indians. Would be a good read if you looking to set up a business in India and are generally bewildered at the way things happen here.
